Advanced Data Capture Technology for Tough Environments

The rugged LS 3408FZ handheld scanner from Symbol Technologies, the Enterprise Mobility Company™, features fuzzy logic technology for fast and accurate reading of damaged, dirty and poorly printed one-dimensional (1D) bar codes typically found in industrial environments.

As innovative as it is rugged, the LS 3408FZ delivers the ergonomic and operational features for scan intensive industrial applications. The scanners exit window is scratch-resistant and recessed for the highest level of durability and minimal downtime. In fact, the LS 3408FZ even maintained its reliability when subjected to multiple drops in a tumble test conducted in the widely recognized Symbol Industrial Design Labs.

For applications requiring quick access and convenient storage, the LS 3408FZ features a built-in metal hook for attachment to a pulley. Two large LED-enhancing windows and extra loud 80 decibel (db) beeper are strategically placed on the scanner to ensure that decode feedback is clearly visible and audible to users.

The LS3408FZ also has the very popular feature *ADF (Advanced Data Formatting) which allows you to modify the data before sending it to the host application, as opposed to modifying the application software.

In many cases, a particular application may expect data input in a certain format and the bar code being scanned doesn't match that format. In these cases, the user typically has two options: modify the application or modify the data being sent from the scanner.

Many software applications are not easy to change especially when a customer has purchased an off the shelf application software package. ADF allows a customer to add special characters to the data, such as a space or asterisk. ADF also allows the user to strip characters from the data string, and even divide up the data string and send data blocks according to pre-programmed transmit times. There are many other formatting options as well.
